AUSTRAL – OPEN 7 DAYS & SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Autumn at The Junction Works: Creativity, Community, and Concert Preparations

As the heat and humidity fades and Autumn begins, there’s an uplifting sense of momentum building across The Junction Works. Autumn always brings a fresh burst of creativity and connection, and this year is no exception.

Our therapy rooms see participants making steady progress with their NDIS goals, participants are learning independent living skills in their new SIL homes, our community and youth team are busy hosting programs in exciting new locations, and our Day Programs participants are eagerly engaging in new programs. Everyone is working towards some exciting milestones for 2026!

Mid‑Year Concert: Rehearsals Begin

One of the highlights of the year for our participants, families and carers, and community members are our Mid- and End-of-Year Concerts. Preparations and rehearsals are officially underway with participants getting ready to shine onstage at the Mid-Year Concert in June.

  • Signing Choir continues practicing with a few new members
  • Performing Arts group are choosing a new script, focusing on confidence and choreography
  • Choir rehearsals have started, warming up for their group performance

These rehearsals are more than just practice — they’re opportunities for teamwork, communication, and self‑expression. Watching participants encourage one another, try new things, and celebrate small wins is a reminder of why these creative programs matter so much.

We can’t wait to see these performances – and more – come to life on stage in June 2026.

Participant Success Story: Market Makers

Alongside Mid-Year Concert preparations, our Day Program participants have been pouring their energy into another much‑loved tradition – creative markets.

After the success of last year’s markets, we’re excited to continue the tradition in 2026 with seasonal stalls for Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas.

Handmade with Pride

Participants have started planning and creating a beautiful range of items in the sewing, creative arts, and cooking programs. These include book and Kindle sleeves, candles, artworks, tote bags, diamond dot artwork, Easter chocolates, and coasters. Each item reflects hours of creativity, patience, and skill‑building.

Going the Extra Mile

In 2025, the creative markets became such a popular program that some participants chose to make additional items at home using their own time and resources. To recognise this initiative, these participants received 100% of the profits from the items they created – a meaningful reward for their ingenuity and dedication.

We have big plans in 2026 to expand on opportunities like this – stay tuned!

Building Skills, Confidence, and Independence

Seeing participants proudly run the market stall, greet customers, and talk about their work is one of the most rewarding parts for our support teams.

The markets are more than just a fun event; they help participants develop a wide range of skills, including:

  • Creativity and design
  • Collaboration and social interaction
  • Consistency and meeting deadlines
  • Customer service and sales
  • Maths and money handling

These experiences can directly support participants in achieving their NDIS goals – and for some, earning a small income from their creations is a powerful confidence boost.
